Offending Words

Three words gained currency in the West since the start of George Bush's War on Terror. They are
Muhammadan, Islamist, and Jihadist. All these words are offensive to Islam. The coining of these words, shows the West total ignorance of Islam. Muhammadan, implies that it was Muhammad who founded Islam. He wasn't. Islam comes from God. Its a divine religion. Muhammad was a mere messenger, a humble one at that who could neither read or write. He did not invent Islam.

The West uses the word Islamist to refer to people who profess Islam. There is already a word for this. The word is "Muslim" for male and "Muslimat" for females which have been in continous use since the time of prophet Muhammad. Perhaps the use of the word Islamist serves the purpose of projecting militancy to the rest of the world.

The West describes Jihadist as a Muslim involved in death-defying acts of terrorism (heroism). In Islam Jihad actually means efforts to improve oneself from good to better
