Monotheism Throughout the Ages

All prophets, from the earliest to the latest have a common mission and that is to bring the message of the oneness of God to man kind. The three monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity and
Islam agree on the name of the first prophet, Adam but they differ on the names of the final prophets.
In Judaism, the final prophet was Moses, in Christianity, Jesus and in Islam, Muhammad.

Monotheism is basically 1. belief in one God 2. living righteously - doing what God says and avoiding what He forbids 3. Studying the dos and don'ts in the revealed books - Torah, Bible and Quraan
(The Quraan contains a lot more dos and don'ts compared to the other two)

Earlier prophets like Noah, Hud and Lot had not been successful in carrying out their missions. People rejected the messages of these prophets. As a result of their denial, both the Bible and the Quraan tell us God destroyed those people who defied the prophets.

Next came Moses. Initially he was successful in spreading the message of monotheism. God gave him the Torah. But at a later stage after the demise of the prophet, the Israelites began to lose their conviction in divine judgement and hereafter and focus their lives instead on the pursuit of material prosperity and power. I think God punished the Israelites the way He punished the people of Noah, Hud and Lot. Throughout history Israel had been attacked many times, their temples destroyed and the people taken into captivity. The latest disaster that befell them was the holocoust in World War II.

Then came along Jesus whose mission was to confirm and revive the teaching of Moses. But unfortunately the teaching of Jesus had been tainted by the pagan beliefs of Greece and Rome which witnessed the dietification of the prophet to the status of god.

Finally came Muhammad whose mission was similar to that of Jesus and that is according to the Quraan, to confirm whatever remain of the previous revelations - the Torah and the Bible

We have a common heritage. Why are we fighting?
