Who Wrote John?

I have just finished reading "The Gospel According to John" . If indeed if it was written by John himself then, that would be most appropriate because he and Jesus were childhood friends, In fact they were second cousins. Mary, Jesus mother and Elizabeth, John's mother were cousins.

However "The Gospel According to John" does not look like John who wrote it. The title itself is a give way. Why "According to John"? and not "By John"?. Another thing is why didn't John refer to himself as "I" ? Take a look at the following verses from the Bible

John 1:15 "John witnessed..." instead of "I witnessed................."
John 1:18 "John talks about..... instead of "I talked about........"
John 1:20 "He confessed...... " instead of "I confessed......
John 1:22 "Then they said to him " instead of "Then they said to me......"

From these examples we can conclude that somebody else wrote the gospel after interviewing John. Can we trust the fellow for not adding his own words to the gospel? This happened in other places in the Bible for example in the story of Judah making love to his own daughter in law.

We can take it whatever John says in the Bible. It does not really matter whether he wrote the gospel himself or he asked somebody to do it. The only part we find it hard to accept is when John says in the Bible that Jesus is the son oGod

is the 22nd. Prophet of Islam
