The Bible says it was Isaac that Abraham put to sacrifice while the Quraan says it was Ishmael. I am putting down points taken from the Quraan and the Bible on this issue.
From the Quraan and the Bible
1. Abraham had two sons, the eldest Ishmael by Hagar and the youngest, Isaac, by Sarah
2. Abraham sent away Hagar and Ismael into the wilderness of Paran (Present day Mecca)
3. There was no water there and Hagar ran between two hills in search of water
From the Bible only
Ismael grew up in Mecca, became an archer, married an Egyptian and found a long line of Arabian tribes.
From the Quraan only
1. God commanded that Ismael be sacrificed but was prevented from doing so
2. Abraham and Ishmael built the Kaabah
3. What Abraham, Hagar and Ismael did became the ritual of Haj
- going around the Kaabah
- running between two hill locks Safar and Marwah
- drinking water from the well of zam zam the spot where Hagar found water
- stoning the devils who tried to dissuade Abraham from carrying out the sacrifice- at jumrat
in Mina
Evidence seems to favor Ismael and not Issac
